Annie’s has launched two new mac and cheese varieties, combining current flavor trends with familiar comfort food. The General Mills-owned brand introduced Super! Mac Dill Pickle Mac & Cheese and Macaroni & Grilled Cheese Mac & Cheese, each offering a fresh take on the classic dish.

Pickle flavor meets added nutrition

The dill pickle version responds to rising demand for tangy, unconventional flavors. It blends a creamy mac and cheese base with dill seasoning and provides 14g of protein and 5g of fiber per serving—almost twice the protein and fiber found in Annie’s standard mac and cheese.

Ben Myers, business unit director for Annie’s, explained that the product aligns with the brand’s focus on comfort and innovation. “Mac and cheese is both comforting and customizable,” he said. “With Dill Pickle Super! Mac, we’re combining a bold flavor trend with added nutrition, letting consumers enjoy the comfort they love in a new way.”

The trend extends beyond novelty. Pickle-flavored snacks, condiments, and drinks have grown in popularity, fueled by social media and a preference for strong, tangy tastes. For brands like Annie’s, these flavors help them stand out while attracting health-conscious shoppers who still want indulgence.

A nostalgic grilled cheese twist

The second product, Macaroni & Grilled Cheese Mac & Cheese, draws on nostalgia. It mixes mac and cheese flavors with a grilled cheese sandwich, using real American cheese and browned butter to replicate the toasted taste of the classic sandwich.

The launches represent two innovation strategies: one following new flavor trends, the other reimagining familiar combinations. The grilled cheese version taps into the emotional connection many have with the sandwich, a childhood staple and quick meal favorite.

Where to find the new products

Super! Mac Dill Pickle Mac & Cheese is available online at Target, Amazon, and Walmart. Macaroni & Grilled Cheese Mac & Cheese debuted at Target this month, with a nationwide rollout planned for later in 2026.

These additions reflect General Mills’ effort to expand Annie’s beyond its organic roots. The brand, recognized for its rabbit logo and natural ingredients, has started experimenting with bolder flavors and added benefits like protein and fiber to reach more consumers.

While neither product claims to be health food, the nutritional improvements show how comfort food brands adapt to changing expectations. Shoppers increasingly expect indulgence and nutrition to coexist.

As food manufacturing processes evolve, companies like Annie’s continue to refine their offerings to meet consumer demands. Production adjustments play a key role in bringing these innovations to market efficiently.
